Dear Friend,

You're invited to the Citizens Coal Council's Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA) Legal Workshop and Training in Pittsburgh, PA  from July 29-31st, 2011!

SMCRA was enacted in 1977 when Congress recognized that coal mining causes landslides, flooding, water pollution, property damage, and destroys fish and wildlife habitats.  Nearly 34 years later, destruction is STILL occurring on a daily basis!

Cuts in federal and state funds have resulted in cuts in enforcement of the law, and involvement by activists, attorneys, and concerned organizations is URGENTLY NEEDED.

Education is power!  Workshop attendees will be armed with the knowledge they need to demand enforcement of this important law. This is the FIRST EVER  workshop of its kind  conducted on the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMCRA)!

YOU WILL:
  • Learn how to effectively use SMCRA to protect citizens and the environment.
  • Be taught by the foremost expert attorneys and organizers on SMCRA law and organizing techniques.
  • Be part of a supportive network of coalfield activists.
  • Have fun!
If you care about what's happening to the land, water, and people of the coalfields, and you want to do something about it, this workshop is for you!  Come learn, engage yourself in your community, network, share, and make a difference!  Together we can bring about positive change.

We hope you will consider attending this important legal and organizing training event.

Space is limited, so register today!
